Draft Statement Of Intent
Here is a draft of my statement of intent for my chosen brief:
For my magazine, I intend to reflect the industry context desired by Bauer Media; which is a magazine that is “relentlessly relevant to the communities we inspire and connect with”. I intend to attract a culturally sophisticated, class AB demographic audience, aged 16-25. I intend to create a sense of modern sophistication to appeal to this audience. My magazine needs to fulfil Bauer Media’s need to remain the number one conglomerate in publishing, I intend to design my magazine carefully to ensure that it fulfils Bauer Media’s need to remain the number one conglomerate in publishing. In my research of ‘Dazed and Confused Magazine’, I discovered that this industry usually used eye-catching, sensational images on their front cover, alongside bold block colours which complimented the main image. I intend to replicate this in my magazine by using a bright colour scheme on both front covers and also by using some contrasting colours to make my magazines more eye-catching. The main cover images will be central, and focus on one model, however they will both have a prop to give them a unique aspect. Both of my models will use eye contact as a form of direct mode of address as this will engage the audience and create a personal element to my magazine. This will adhere to the codes and conventions of a fashion magazine. In terms of my cover lines, I want to keep a minimalistic approach, as I have found this to be effective in my research of ‘Dazed and Confused Magazine’ as it gives enough information to entice the audience into reading more, although does not take away from the front cover image. The cover lines of my magazine will relate to articles about fashion and beauty – such as trends in colour schemes and news about recent fashion shows or trends that would appeal to my target audience, such as developments in the LGBTQ+ society and news involving LGBTQ+ celebrities.
For my online, I would like to make my website relevant to the target audience of the magazine 16-25 year olds because they are the main users of social and online media in society, therefore a digital version of my magazine will be easy for them to digest and interact with. There will also be links to the magazine’s social media to engage my target demographic on a range of media platforms, giving Bauer a wider audience. For the working website of my magazine, I intend to follow the codes and conventions of website design. This includes the same title and logo of my magazine to create brand identity across both media platforms. I would also like to include a menu bar which links to subcategories that my culturally sophisticated audience will engage with. This will include subcategories like ‘News’, ‘Fashion’, ‘Health & Beauty’ and ‘Art & Lifestyle’. I will also include social media link. This will give readers a social media presence and therefore allow interactivity within the websites, and will also adhere to the codes and conventions of a fashion magazine website. I would also like to feature an ‘online exclusive’ section in my website (advertised in the contents of the magazine) as this will entice the readers to interact with the website. This will be relevant to my target audience of. In line with interactivity I would also like to include a ‘talk to us’ button where readers can easily email/message in and get in touch with the editors about ideas or concerns. This will make the whole experience of my magazine a lot more personal to the individual reader and therefore build brand identity and brand loyalty with the audience.
